WHY

* The United Soybean Board reports that soy food sales have nearly tripled since 1996 – from $1.2 billion in sales to more than $3 billion today.
* According to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), edamame can help reduce certain types of cancer and heart disease, two of the three leading causes of death in the U.S.
* Bright Future Foods plans to contribute 10 percent of its net profits to the Bright Future Adoption Foundation, which is dedicated to helping bring children and prospective parents together through adoption.

GENESIS OF BRIGHT FUTURE FOODS AND MA-ME

* Bright Future Foods was inspired during a trip taken by founder Anne Chambers to China while completing the adoption of her daughter, Annie Chang. During the trip, she enjoyed a vegetarian diet which included mostly tofu and other soy products.

* Once back home, Ms. Chambers looked for great tasting soy products, and she found edamame.

* The company name was inspired by Annie, whose birth name, Chang, means “Bright Future.” According to Ms. Chambers, naming the company Bright Future Foods keeps her focused of the dual missions of the company, which are first, to help create healthier lives by introducing people to the benefits of soy, and second to call attention to adoption as a wonderful way to create a family.
